LEAD DENTAL ASSISTANT

The Physician Assistant is primarily responsible for providing medical services to patients of Livingston Community Health.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operational Support – Supporting Dental Services Manager(s) with general clinic operations, including but not limited to dental assisting, monitoring dental assistants’ productivity, functional supervision and development for the dental assistants at their assigned home office site/or other clinical sites, and ensuring that all staff is taking their breaks and lunches on-time.
     

  2. Clinical Support – Ensure efficient patient flow according to the scheduled demands and emergency walk-ins.  Verify labs cases are in order, invoices are correct and cases are in the office when patients are scheduled.
     

  3. Team Work – The Lead should ensure back office runs smoothly and efficiently while creating an excellent patient experience.
     

  4. Perform independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentists in accordance with current certification, state regulations, and the Dental Department’s directives and protocols.
     

  5. Maintain Dental Department equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions.
     

  6. Maintain adequate operatory supplies and compiles a list of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes.
     

  7. Assist dental providers in ensuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed.
     

  8. Assist with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate.
     

  9. Ensure the proper disposal of all materials in accordance with Dental Department directives, center policy as well as state and federal regulations.
     

  10. Perform all functions in full compliance with the Dental Department’s Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions.
     

  11. Participate in patient CAMBRA and Oral Hygiene education sessions.
     

  12. Other duties as assigned/required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Current California State Registered Dental Assistant Certification.
     

  2. Completion of accredited course in dental assisting and minimum one-year experience as a Dental Assistant preferred.
     

  3. Current Coronal polish and Sealant certificates preferred.
     

  4.  Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
     

  5. High School Diploma or GED.
     

  6. California Radiation Safety Certificate.
     

  7. BLS (CPR) Certification required.
     

  8. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
     

  9. Computer literacy required; familiarity with the use of clinical software and Microsoft Windows.
     

  10. Strong organizational skills.
     

  11. Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively in both English and Spanish (preferred).

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely communicates verbally and on a face to face basis with others.

Requires standing/walking for up to 30% to 60% at a time, sitting for up to 30% to 60% at a time, lifting and carrying 0% to 20% at a time, lifting or carrying of up to 40 pounds 0% to 5% at a time, reaching 30% to 70 % at a time, bending and stooping 30% to 80 % at a time, squatting/crouching 5% to 15 % at a time, handling/grasping 25% to 80% at a time.
